Isla Mujeres Changes After Dark
When the daylight disappears, the Caribbean becomes quieter, the coastline softens, and the space between the island and the horizon begins to feel much larger.
A Moonlight Cruise is a private evening on the water shaped around the lunar phase, the people aboard, and the kind of night they want to create.
It can be social, contemplative, romantic, spiritual, photographic, celebratory, or simply peaceful. It may be shared by a couple, a family, a group of friends, or one person who wants to experience the sea without the noise of the day.
There is no mandatory ceremony and no expectation that the evening must feel mystical or romantic. The experience is private, and its meaning belongs to the guests.

Not One Kind of Night
The Moonlight Cruise is intentionally not limited to one audience.
For Couples
A couple may choose quiet music, a private dinner, an anniversary, a proposal, or simply time away from the island’s busiest places.
For Families
Families may use the evening to celebrate a birthday, mark a reunion, introduce children to the night sky, or share a calm experience across generations.
For Friends
A group of friends may prefer conversation, music, photographs, a toast, or a relaxed cruise without the atmosphere of a crowded party boat.
For Reflection or Personal Ritual
Guests may meditate, pray, set intentions, observe silence, read something meaningful, or perform a personal cultural or spiritual practice.
The crew does not claim supernatural results, interpret rituals, or impose beliefs. We provide the vessel, privacy, safe navigation, and respectful space.
For Photography and Skywatching
Moonrise, reflected light, silhouettes, the island coastline, clouds, stars, and changing colors can create remarkable photographic conditions. Natural visibility and sky conditions cannot be guaranteed.
Every Lunar Phase Creates a Different Experience
Full Moon
The full moon is the brightest and most requested night. It often rises near sunset, creates a visible path of light across the water, and allows the coastline and people aboard to remain more visible without artificial lighting.
Waxing Gibbous
The nights immediately before the full moon are among the best alternatives. The Moon already appears large and bright, while availability may be better than on the exact full-moon date.
Waning Gibbous
After the full moon, the Moon may rise later in the evening. This can create a cruise that begins beneath a darker sky and changes when the Moon appears above the horizon.
First Quarter and Crescent Moon
A smaller illuminated Moon creates a balance between moonlight and darker sky. These nights may be attractive for groups that want both the Moon and a better chance to see stars.
New Moon
During the new moon, the Moon is not normally visible. The experience becomes less of a moonlit cruise and more of a private night-sky and stargazing cruise, subject to cloud cover and surrounding light.
The exact astronomical moment of a full moon may occur during daylight. For the experience on the water, the evening before or after that moment may be equally beautiful or better.
Moon Calendar 2026 – Best Nights for a Moonlight Cruise
The following full-moon times are local to the Cancún and Isla Mujeres time zone. The most attractive booking window normally includes the night before, the listed date, and the night after, depending on moonrise, clouds, weather, and the desired experience.
- January 3, 2026 – 5:02 AM
- February 1, 2026 – 5:09 PM
- March 3, 2026 – 6:37 AM — Total lunar eclipse visible from Cancún and Isla Mujeres during the early morning.
- April 1, 2026 – 9:11 PM
- May 1, 2026 – 12:23 PM
- May 31, 2026 – 3:45 AM — Blue Moon and Micro Full Moon.
- June 29, 2026 – 6:56 PM — Micro Full Moon.
- July 29, 2026 – 9:35 AM
- August 27, 2026 – 11:18 PM — Partial lunar eclipse visible during the night of August 27–28.
- September 26, 2026 – 11:49 AM
- October 25, 2026 – 11:11 PM
- November 24, 2026 – 9:53 AM
- December 23, 2026 – 8:28 PM — Super Full Moon.
Full-moon and eclipse dates are naturally the most requested and should be reserved as early as possible. A lunar event does not guarantee clear skies, calm water, an unobstructed horizon, or permission to operate the original route.
Special Moon Nights in 2026
March 3 – Total Lunar Eclipse
During a total lunar eclipse, Earth’s shadow covers the Moon and the lunar surface may appear copper, orange, or red. The 2026 event occurs in the early morning, so any marine operation must be arranged as a special departure with separate transportation, dock, visibility, crew, and navigation planning.
May 31 – Blue Micro Moon
This is the second full moon in May, commonly called a Blue Moon. It is also classified as a Micro Full Moon, meaning the Moon is near the more distant part of its orbit and may appear slightly smaller than average.
August 27–28 – Partial Lunar Eclipse
This eclipse takes place during a full-moon night and may allow observers to see part of the lunar disk move through Earth’s darker shadow. Visibility remains dependent on clouds, horizon, route, and weather.
December 23 – Super Full Moon
A Super Full Moon occurs when the full moon is near the closer part of its orbit around Earth. It may appear somewhat larger and brighter, especially when low near the horizon.

Personal, Cultural, and Spiritual Practices
Guests may bring a meaningful reading, meditation, prayer, music, symbolic object, or quiet personal practice.
The activity must be explained before departure and must remain legal, safe, respectful of the crew and other guests, and harmless to the marine environment.
Not Permitted
- Open flames, candles, or burning materials.
- Fireworks, flares, or pyrotechnics.
- Floating lanterns.
- Balloons or materials released into the air.
- Glass placed near the vessel edge or thrown into the water.
- Plastic, fabric, paper, glitter, flowers, or objects released into the sea without approval.
- Illegal substances or unsafe intoxication.
- Any activity that interferes with navigation, crew instructions, or emergency equipment.
The captain may stop or modify any activity that creates a safety, legal, environmental, or operational concern.
Night Navigation Requires a Different Operating Plan
A Moonlight Cruise is not simply a daytime tour operated after sunset.
Darkness changes distance perception, dock access, visibility, guest movement, weather awareness, and the way the captain identifies other vessels, markers, and shoreline references.
The final route is selected according to:
- Wind and sea state.
- Cloud cover, rain, and visibility.
- Moonrise, lunar phase, and horizon direction.
- Port and marina instructions.
- Navigation lighting and vessel readiness.
- Guest ages, mobility, and comfort.
- Departure and return dock access.
- Other vessel traffic.
- Emergency and transportation logistics.
A requested route may be shortened, changed, or replaced by a safer alternative.
Swimming and Snorkeling at Night
Water entry is not automatically included in a Moonlight Cruise.
Swimming or snorkeling may be considered only when:
- The selected area legally permits the activity.
- Sea conditions and visibility are appropriate.
- The captain approves the location and timing.
- Participants have the necessary swimming ability and comfort.
- Proper lighting, flotation, supervision, and recovery procedures are available.
- The activity does not conflict with protected-area restrictions or vessel traffic.
Life jackets and crew instructions are mandatory when required. No water activity is guaranteed in advance.
Moonlight Photography
Night photography behaves differently from daytime photography. The Moon may appear bright to the eye while people and the boat remain much darker in the camera.
Guests should expect:
- Longer exposure times.
- Movement from the vessel and water.
- Changing cloud cover.
- Strong contrast between the Moon and foreground.
- Possible reflections on the sea.
- Reduced image quality from phone cameras in very dark conditions.
Professional or specialized photography requests should be discussed before booking so equipment space, route, timing, lighting, and guest expectations can be considered.

Private ground transportation may be coordinated from hotels, residences, the airport, Costa Mujeres, Playa Mujeres, Cancún, or other Riviera Maya locations.
Guests traveling between Cancún and Isla Mujeres can also review Aqua Taxi 24/7.
A Private Experience, Quoted Individually
The Moonlight Cruise does not use one universal price because the operating plan changes with the group and the night.
The quotation depends on:
- Number of guests.
- Departure point.
- Departure time and lunar event.
- Duration.
- Route and vessel requirements.
- Transportation.
- Food, beverages, music, flowers, photography, or other arrangements.
- Additional crew or operational requirements.
The written proposal confirms the price, inclusions, exclusions, meeting point, payment schedule, and weather conditions before the reservation is accepted.
