How the Experience Works

1. Briefing and equipment introduction. You learn how the equipment works, how to breathe through the regulator, how to equalize, how to communicate underwater, and what to expect during the activity.
2. Shallow-water training. Basic skills are practiced step by step in shallow water under direct supervision.
3. Boat departure. Once the training portion is complete, the group travels to the nearby reef area.
4. First guided dive. The first open-water dive allows you to apply the skills and become comfortable underwater.
5. Second guided dive. After the first experience, the second dive gives you another opportunity to relax, observe marine life, and enjoy the reef with greater confidence.

Progress is gradual. The supervising professional determines whether it is appropriate to continue from training to open water based on comfort, understanding, safety, and the conditions of the day.

Beginner Dive Sites Inside the National Marine Park

Try Scuba takes place in the same shallow reef area used for certified recreational diving. The nearby sites include Manchones Reef, Manchones 1, Manchones 2, Jardines, La Cruz de la Bahía, MUSA, and other sites within the same general section of the Isla Mujeres National Marine Park.

These locations are close to one another, share similar shallow depths, and are all suitable for beginner-level diving and Open Water recreational profiles. One site is not presented as easier, clearer, or more advanced than another. The specific site is selected according to the daily operating plan, weather, sea conditions, access, and marine park management.

Marine life may include sea turtles, stingrays, lobsters, groupers, barracudas, angelfish, parrotfish, and schools of tropical fish. Wildlife and visibility vary naturally, and no individual sighting can be guaranteed.

MUSA Underwater Museum

The MUSA installations are located within the same Manchones reef area and form part of the underwater environment visited by recreational and beginner divers. The submerged sculptures were created to encourage coral growth, reduce pressure on natural reefs, and provide a distinctive visual experience.

The exact sites visited on a specific day depend on the operating plan and conditions. A particular sculpture area or reef site is not guaranteed.

Designed for First-Time Divers

The activity is structured around preparation, close supervision, shallow depth, and gradual progression. Participants are not expected to arrive knowing how to use scuba equipment.

Morning and afternoon schedules are available, subject to availability, weather, marine conditions, and operating requirements.

Morning Option

• 8:00 AM – Meeting.
• 8:30 AM – Shallow-water training.
• 9:00 AM – Boat departure.

What to Bring

Bring biodegradable sunscreen, a towel, sunglasses, and a hat. If you are prone to seasickness, take your preferred medication before departure and follow its instructions.

Before confirmation, provide your height, weight, shoe size, swimming comfort, and any medical, mobility, or assistance considerations relevant to safe participation.

Hotel Pickup and Transportation

Marine pickup may be possible from hotels, residences, marinas, or piers with authorized dock access that can safely accommodate the vessel. Boarding directly from the beach is not available.

If the hotel does not have a suitable dock, private ground transportation to the assigned marina can be coordinated. Final logistics and any additional costs depend on location, access, group size, schedule, luggage, and operating conditions.

  • No. It is an introductory experience, not a certification course. Guests who want to continue can review our certification programs.

  • The activity begins slowly in shallow water. You practice the basic skills step by step before continuing to the boat dives. Open-water participation depends on comfort, understanding, safety, and the supervising professional’s assessment.
• Do I need to know how to swim?
  • Basic swimming ability and comfort in the water are required. Advanced swimming skills are not necessary.
• How deep are the dives?
  • The maximum depth is approximately 33 ft / 10 m.
• How long is the boat ride?
  • The boat ride is approximately 15 minutes from the ferry pier, depending on sea conditions and the assigned site.
• Can children participate?
  • Participation depends on age, comfort in the water, required forms, medical considerations, and the applicable training requirements. Please provide the child’s age before confirmation.
• Can I wear contact lenses?
  • Many divers use soft contact lenses with a scuba mask. Guests with prescription or vision concerns should mention them before the activity so the available options can be reviewed.
• What happens if I decide not to continue after training?
  • Safety and comfort come first. Continuing to the open-water dives is never appropriate if the participant cannot complete the training comfortably or follow the required procedures.
• Can hotel pickup be arranged?
