The Whale Shark Experience
During Mexico’s official whale shark season (May 15–September 17), whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) gather in the waters north of Isla Mujeres to feed. This tour gives you a respectful chance to snorkel alongside them in the open ocean, guided by our crew and conducted under the rules that protect both guests and wildlife.
Your safety and the animals’ well-being come first. Whale sharks are wild and free-roaming; we never chase, touch, or “stage” encounters. If conditions or whale shark behavior call for it, we simply observe from the boat or move on.
Before you book, please review the rules, requirements, and day-of expectations here. It takes two minutes and helps ensure a smooth, unforgettable day for everyone on board.
The legal operating season for whale shark tours in this region is May 15 to September 17. Within that window, daily conditions (wind, waves, visibility, and official port instructions) determine whether the tour runs and what is possible on the water. Outside the official season, tours cannot operate.

- 7:00 AM – Boat departure
or
- 8:50 AM – Meeting
- 9:00 AM – Boat departure
Meeting points are Playa Centro (Isla Mujeres) or Punta Sam (Cancún). After a short safety and rules briefing, we head offshore to the authorized whale shark zone; travel time is typically 1–2 hours depending on conditions. When swimming is allowed, entries are organized in small turns to keep the interaction calm and respectful.
On the way back, we slow the pace and enjoy the island side of the day. We snorkel at Yunque Reef and then head toward Playa Norte, where guests relax in the water, enjoy fresh ceviche prepared by the captain, sip cold drinks, and unwind in one of Isla Mujeres’ most beautiful settings before returning to shore.
